Welcome to the Sesame Street Podcast

What is a Podcast?

Podcasting is a method of distributing audio and video files over the Internet using RSS (Really Simple Syndication) feeds. There are two main types of podcasts, audio and video. Video podcasts are also known as "vodcasts"

With podcasting, you can subscribe to a feed and choose when and where you want to watch or listen to a program. Once you subscribe to a podcast, the audio or video files are delivered to your computer. You can then play them directly on your computer, or on a mobile device such as an MP3 player, smartphone, or video-enabled portable media player.

The Sesame Street video podcast is offered on a weekly basis. These videos are also available for direct download or streaming.

Here are some recommendations for monitoring your child's podcast experience:

  • Provide your child with over-the-ear headphones. Earbuds and other headphones that go in the ear can affect children's hearing.
  • Monitor the volume on your child's sound device.
  • Limit your child's listening time to one hour per day.
  • Subscribe through iTunes or another type of podcast software. The iTunes software can be downloaded free from Apple and can be used even if you don't own an iPod.
  • Subscribe using an RSS feed reader or automatically using Mozilla Firefox web browser
  • Watch the streamed video on the Sesame Street podcast home page
  • Download the video file directly to your computer

To watch the podcast, you need a computer with a reliable Internet connection and a media player such as iTunes, QuickTime, or Windows Media Player. To watch while you're not in front of your computer, you need a portable device that plays video files, such as an iPod or smartphone.

No, you do not need an iPod to watch the Sesame Street podcast.
The Sesame Street podcast is free!

How Do I Get Podcast Software?

There are many free options. iTunes is one popular choice that works for both Windows and Mac users. You do not need to own an iPod in order to use the iTunes software. Each computer's operating system requires certain software, so be sure to choose one that will work on your computer. Click here for information on software options.

When you "download" the Sesame Street podcast, you are copying the video file (usually an M4V file) from our site onto your computer. You can then play it in iTunes or another media player. The file will remain on your computer until you delete it. Once a file is downloaded, you can then transfer it to your portable media player.

When you "stream" the podcast, you are watching the current video directly from our site. This does not require you to add the file to your computer. To stream videos, you need to download a free Flash plugin.

You can subscribe via the RSS feed.

If you no longer wish to subscribe to the Sesame Street podcast, please delete the entire podcast entry for Sesame Street in your podcast software. Select the entire RSS feed, not the individual episode or episodes.
